Recycling boxes, bags and sacks - pick up points and deliveries
Clear Bag Deliveries 2017
We will be delivering a roll of clear bags for recycling to all households, (except flats with communal recycling and rubbish bins) throughout May 2017. Delivers will start on Tuesday 2 May and finish on Friday 26 May.
Please be aware that bags are not delivered by your normal recycling and rubbish collection crews, and bags may not be delivered to your property on your normal collection day.
We are making changes to your Recycling and Rubbish Collections from June 2017. These changes will help us to focus on recycling more and will mean that we will be putting less into landfill. One of these changes means we will not be supplying you with an annual roll of free black bags. Read more on these changes and see our Frequently Asked Questions here.
If you require extra bags, sacks, boxes or food caddies you can collect them from the collections points below.
Recycling Packs for New Build properties
When you move into a new build property, residents who have registered for Council Tax, will shortly after receive a package of recycling equipment which will be delivered to them by a member of their zone teams. The process for delivery is automatic once the Council Tax information is received, so residents don't need to do anything extra.
The package contains: 2 green boxes and lids, 1 roll clear sacks, 1 kerbside caddy, 1 Kitchen caddy, 1 roll of caddy liners and 1 Recycling calendar
The zone teams will use this as an opportunity to explain the Council's services and answer any questions residents may have about how to recycle using the Council's collection service.
Residents will also receive a card with information to access our web pages so they have all the information they need to get further supplies and order white garden sacks.
Where to pick up extra sacks, bags, boxes and food caddies
Please phone the stockist before making a journey. Collection points for these containers may have limited stock.
Assisted Collection Customers
If you have applied for, and have had a confirmation letter to say that you are registered as part of our assisted collection scheme, you can order garden waste sacks or assisted collection recycling containers for home delivery.
If you are not part of our assisted collection scheme, but you need new recycling containers, please visit one of our suppliers listed above to collect your container at a location and time convenient for you.
Clear bags for plastics, paper, card and textiles. Green boxes for glass, cans and foil.
Clear recycling sacks and green recycling boxes are available for free from a number of locations in the borough. Pick-ups are limited to one recycling box and one roll of clear sacks per property.
Please do not use clear bags or carrier bags to put glass and cans out for collection.
White sacks for garden waste
You can order garden waste sacks online to be delivered to your home address.
White garden waste sacks are available from a number of locations in the borough at £3.70 each. Please do not use plastic bags to put garden waste out for collection. As well as contaminating the recycling they are not strong enough to contain this material, potentially leading to the bags splitting.
Black bags for non-recyclable rubbish
You can use any black bags for your non-recyclable rubbish and do not need to use "Council bags". However, every household in the borough has one roll of black bags delivered to their property in April or May every year - apart from flats with communal recycling and rubbish bins.
If you require extra black bags, you can buy these from your local supermarket or general store.
Colchester Borough Council does not collect rubbish from wheelie bins placed at the kerbside.
