Colchester - A Fairtrade Town

In 2006 the Fairtrade Foundation awarded Colchester the title of 'Fairtrade Town', an official status awarded to towns that have a proven commitment to supporting Fairtrade. The town has been awarded this status every year since and the 'Colchester Fairtrade Town Campaign' are proud of the towns commitment to Fairtrade.

Since 2006 the town has seen the growth of the sale of Fairtrade products in Colchester's shops & cafes but the campaigns committee do not rest on their laurels. They are always trying to encourage workplaces & community organisations to embrace Fairtrade and buy these products. You can view their on-line Directory of retail & catering outlets supplying Fairtrade options on their  website.

As part of their commitment, the Colchester Fairtrade Town Campaign organise regular events to highlight the benefits of Fairtrade and its effect to farmers in the Third World, especially during Fairtrade Fortnight, which in 2015 falls between Monday, 23rd February & Sunday, 8th March  but also at other events throughout the year which are listed on their events section

The independent Fairtrade shop, which is located at Lion Walk United Reform Church, sells food, crafts & other gifts from around the world. Buying these products helps to improve the living conditions for some of the world's most marginalised people. If they do not have what you want in stock they can usually source it from their suppliers.
The shop is currently open on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Fridays from 11 - 15.30.
